School Wood

School Wood is a long established area of woodland in the south-east corner of the Dunfermline Public Park, adjacent to Commercial and St Margaret’s Primary Schools. The wood covers approx. 1 hectare and includes a network of paths and some interesting chainsaw sculptures and interpretation.

The wider Public Park forms a large area of green space to the eastern side of the Dunfermline Town Centre. The wood was once part of the old Transy Estate, and is now owned by Fife Council, Community Services. School Wood is a small wood however it is a very important part of Dunfermline town and its history.

Because of its position beside two of the biggest Primary Schools in Dunfermline and within walking distance of other schools it makes for an invaluable resource for environmental education. It is perfect for school activities, a great little den for wildlife, and a good green space for a walk or run etc.

The woodland can be accessed on foot or by parking at the main Public Car Park on New Row.

We are very interested to hear your views on our sites. We'd appreciate it if you could take 5 minutes to complete this form and help the site ranger continue to improve the site for all to enjoy.
