Townhill Wood

Townhill Wood is a long-established woodland of semi natural origin covering an area of 39.5 hectares. Although there have been woods in Townhill for centuries, the majority of the trees standing today were planted between 1914 and 1939. The main vehicle access into the woodland is from Forest Road, which leads to a woodland car park; there is one other car park at the North end of the wood called Lilliehill.

The woodland is used extensively for formal and informal recreational pursuits and education and boasts a good network of paths.

In the past few years Townhill Wood has become a focus for volunteers and groups seeking to learn new skills and team building or just to experience the freedom of the woodland. Schools and colleges also find that Townhill Wood fulfils the criteria of the 5-14 curriculum extremely well and visits are always well received.
