Clune PlantationThe Clune is a very important site in Lochore Meadows Country Park because of its variety of habitats. Rangers have carried out work to control invasive species such as Gorse and Broom. This opens up the ground to light and ensures the survival of the Violets that are important brood plants of the rare Small Pearl-Bordered Fritillary, as well as providing good habitat for birds such as Stonechats and Winchats. Annual surveys of plants and bird life monitor habitat progression and measure the site's value for wildlife.
New sluices to control water levels in the plantation area enhance the species rich wetland Birchwood. Work has been carried out to identify locations of the rare Coralroot Orchid to ensure its continued survival on the site. |
