Fife Coast and Countryside Trust supporting Coast Along for Water Aid 2010
Wednesday, August 18, 2010
Former Prime Minister and MP for Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath Gordon Brown is putting his support behind international charity WaterAid's latest fundraising campaign, Coast Along for WaterAid 2010. Mr Brown and his family will take to Fife's spectacular coastal paths on September 11th, joining teams of sponsored walkers around the UK raising vital funds for the charity's work in some of the world's poorest communities.
Coast Along for WaterAid aims to get at least one team of walkers on 187 coastal paths in selected regions throughout Scotland, England and Wales on Saturday 11 September 2010. Money raised will help WaterAid to provide safe water, sanitation and hygiene education to those living in poverty in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region.
This is the first time Scottish paths have been included in the event; the Fife Coastal Path and the John Muir Way in East Lothian so the push is on to make the Scottish leg a big success.
There are only 3 weeks left until event day and we still have 3 sections in Fife without teams and 4 empty sections in East Lothian so please pledge your support to this fantastic family event. There can be up to 5 teams per path section and all we ask is that each team member raises £50 in sponsorship with family teams and children raising whatever they can.
Mr Brown says: "It's a terrible fact in this day and age that in many of the world's poorest communities preventable diseases caused by poor sanitation and unsafe water kill 4000 children every day."
"WaterAid is transforming lives by providing communities with safe water and sanitation and we can all help them continue this life-saving work by walking with family and friends on our beautiful Fife coast on September 11th."
