West Sands Management Plan Public Consultation meeting 13 June 2011

Thursday, June 2, 2011
The West Sands beach dunes system is part of the larger Eden Estuary SSSI. It is the most visited free recreational space in Fife. However, there are many competing pressures from different users, together with the changing conditions of the Eden Estuary, and effects of storms and exceptional weather events.
There is an urgent need for clarity and co-ordination between interested parties with responsibilities for the West Sands, as well as its users to ensure that good management principles are agreed and acted on.

The West Sands Partnership, formed in 2010, includes Fife Council, FCCT, St. Andrews University, SNH and SEPA who together have drafted a Management Plan for the West Sands, this draft is being made available for public consultation. A public meeting is being held in the St Andrews Burgh Chambers on Monday 13 June starting at 7pm where Julian Inglis of FCCT, co-ordinator for the plan, will lay out its main elements and explain the underlying principles. All are welcome!
