Nature Trail Townhill Woods
Thursday, November 1, 2012
In the past month the Ranger Lyn Strachan has carried out a great wee project working on the area she has named the nature trail Townhill Woods. The nature trail was developed with the aid and funds of SKY and their volunteers. Unfortunately it was very badly hit by storms and became unaccessible to school parties etc. To rectify this situation she has been working with a wood cutter and also has the chainsaw. She has been felling all wind damage and dangerous trees on the nature trail, she has then brought in a small forwarder (to limit ground damage see machinery and chainsaw photos) to remove and stack the trees cut. The community Council and other community volunteers have helped her to clear the area of the left over brash/ hag, she has also added elements like new signage and some of the trees to big for the forwarder to lift have been made seats and benches. She had a great turn out of volunteers and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves with lot's of woodland management completed into the bargain. Well done and thanks to the Townhill Community Council for helping her out.
