Since the storm on Tuesday the wind has driven hundreds of seabirds (mainly Guillemots) onto the Fife coastline. Many are dead or are dying. SSPCA have been inundated with call outs and we have been involved with a number of rescues and retrievals.
Tha advice is that the situation is being dealt with where practical and that members of the public should either leave the birds alone on the beach to rest and recover and they will, if healthy, return to sea on the next tide. OR if they are confident to assist in placing the birds back on the water's edge, please do not take home any birds.
These birds are moulting just now so they are naturally flighless. Because they cannot fly people are assuming they are injured or distressed.
