Website celebrates Kingdom's great outdoors
Friday, January 11, 2013
A NEW website has been launched to help people to find inspiring locations to take a healthy break from their Christmas festivities and enjoy the Kingdom's great outdoors.
Discoverfife.net is an online directory full of information about the area's free beaches, parks, woodlands and local nature reserves.
It includes information for each location, including on-site facilities, a map reference and a link to the website of the organisation that manages the site for further details.
Smartphone users can turn to the site for inspiration whilst they are on the move, as the site will suggest suitable sites within a certain distance of your current location.
"We hope that Discover Fife will become an invaluable resource for anyone who'd like to enjoy a free day out and about," said Simon Philips, Business Manager for Fife Coast and Countryside Trust - the region's leading environmental charity conserving and maintaining Fife's countryside.
"Fife has been the number one outdoor tourism destination in Scotland for six years in a row, thanks to the wealth of fantastic locations inland and along the coast.
"We wanted to try to make information about these sites as easy to find as possible.
"We are also grateful to Fife Council, Forestry Commission Scotland and the Scottish Wildlife Trust who have provided information about some of their sites.
"This is the first week that the website has been live and we hope that we can add more outdoor sites regularly so if you manage a free outdoor site in Fife that can be added to Discover Fife, please contact the Trust at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 01592 656080."
