Balbirnie River Restoration Community Walkover

Join us for a walkover of the Back Burn at Balbirnie Park to discuss the proposed river restoration works and offer your views.

The Back Burn has seen many man-made changes over time, which have affected its health and that of the surrounding environment.

The Back Burn River Restoration Project aims to restore sections of the river to more natural conditions to support local wildlife and to provide improved access to nature for local communities. In October 2025, restoration works were completed at Coul Den, and the next phase of works are planned for Balbirnie Park in summer 2026.

We are looking to engage with the community about the proposed restoration works at Balbirnie Park, including re-aligning the man-made channel back to its historic, natural watercourse. We welcome you to join us for a walkover of the Back Burn at Balbirnie Park to discuss proposed improvement and what the community would like to see. You will meet the key project team and we welcome any feedback or ideas you have for improving the river environment at Balbirnie Park.
