Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) can be all sorts of places – woodlands, wetlands, meadows or coastal sand dunes.
They provide wild spaces where plants and animals, both common and rare, can thrive. In particular LNRs also offer unique opportunities to explore or study your local nature, or to simply enjoy a gentle walk.
Fife Coast and Countryside Trust manages four LNRs in Fife such as Birnie & Gaddon Lochs. We maintain the paths and features throughout these sites and try and help users learn about and enjoy them through interpretation and events.
The Trust is always keen to improve Local Nature Reserves and other sites in Fife. We rely on the enthusiasm and generosity of our volunteers and other supporters to do so.
In Scotland, we can enjoy the outdoors on most land and inland water as long as we act responsibly and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. This means: care for the environment, respect the interests of others and be responsible for your own actions. Please take your rubbish home and leave only footprints.
