I was born in Arbroath but moved around a lot in my early childhood, as my father was in the Fleet Air Arm. Iām a graduate of St. Andrews University and a retired Information Systems Architect. My first job was as an actuarial trainee with Standard Life in Edinburgh, before moving to Southern California to work in information technology for TRW Inc. Since then, my career has all been in IT, working closely with large financial institutions. From Southern California I moved to the San Francisco Bay area to work first for Bank of America, then for IBM. With IBM I moved to England, then Vancouver and after that back to Scotland. Finally, I joined Microsoft where I worked both in Seattle and in the UK until I retired. After that I set up my own company and worked in Edinburgh as a consultant until I fully retired. Since 2004 I have been a Fellow of the RSA (the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce).
I live on the edge of west Fife, in Kinross, where my family settled on our return from Canada. We have a close affinity with Fife ā my wife and one daughter and her husband also studied at St. Andrews University, and another daughter lives in Fife and works for the Fife Health Board.
I joined the Board as an Independent Director in 2020. I believe that the outdoor facilities supported by the FCCT are an amazing asset for Fife. I think that my international experience and technology background enable me to contribute to the ongoing development and future success of the Trust.
