Maiden Mother Mage – A Guided Walk

A guided Fife Pilgrim Way walk with our expert Access Officer, Iwan, finishing at Culross Abbey for a powerful theatrical performance.

This fascinating guided walk compliments a performance of the powerful play, Maiden Mother Mage, written and directed by Rebecca Sharp, at Culross Abbey.

It’s a chance to spend time with our knowledgeable Access Officer, Iwan, to absorb the sights and stories of Culross, Scotland’s most complete example of a 17th and 18th century burgh. Culross is one of the starting points for the Fife Pilgrim Way, a 64-mile trail that heads to Dunfermline – the realm of St Margaret of Scotland – and winds through Fife’s heartlands to finish in St Andrews.

The walk, which is free of charge, will take around an hour and finish at Culross Abbey in time for the performance of Maiden Mother Mage at 2pm. If you wish to attend this show, you do need to purchase separate tickets here on Eventbrite. The guided walk ticket only admits you to the walk.

Our walk is over fairly gentle terrain. But please be aware that Culross has cobbled streets and it is a steep walk up cobbles to Culross Abbey. You’ll be greeted at the Abbey with a complimentary herbal tea blended specially for the ‘Maiden Mother Mage’ project by Rosemary Rose holistic herbalist. There are cafés in Culross, however a packed lunch is suggested due to time available.

Maiden Mother Mage is a poetic reimagining of Thaney, later known as St Teneu / Tenew, or St Enoch, who has strong links with Culross. It’s a site-specific performance by actors, with live original score, and is supported by Creative Scotland.

Start exploring the Fife Pilgrim Way on our website and head to our online shop to buy merchandise.

If you book places but then can’t attend, please let us know by cancelling your ticket on Eventbrite, or by emailing ask.us@fifecountryside.co.uk or phoning 01592 656080. This will ensure we can offer your place to someone on the waiting list. Nearer the event date we will email all participants with details of the meeting place.

If you cancel your tickets, which have an associated payment/donation, you will be responsible for paying the Eventbrite administration fee.
