Evidence of Scotlandwellā€™s 18th- and 19th-century development can still be seen today in former weavers houses and loomshops as well as a surviving Wash House, Bleaching Green and Garden which, with the well, formed part of a mid-19th-century village amenity scheme designed by the noted Scottish architect David Bryce (1803-76) for local landowner Thomas Bruce of Arnot.
