Coul Den once had an industrial past tied to the Haigs Distillery in Markinch and Wemyss. Now it is a haven for wildlife and a great open space on the edge of Glenrothes to explore with all the family. Look out for the many types of birds, animals, plants and insects who make their home in this fascinating place.
In summer/autumn 2025 you will see groundworks and river restoration activities at Coul Den. There may be path closures or diversions. Please follow the signage on site. The car park off Calder Court, Glenrothes, remains open.
There are well made paths around the loch and a number of benches to pause and take in the views. This is a circular walk on compacted well surfaced paths, with some short moderate slopes on the way.
You can extend your walk to take in the Pitcairn Loop and go up into the Lomond Hills.
In the spirit of responsible access, please also follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
