One Thousand Bluebells and Snowdrops Planted in Touch.

Fife Coast and Countryside Trust (FCCT) working as part of the Lyne Burn Project, recently organised two planting events.

The Lyne Burn Green Network is a multi-partner project which aims to improve and connect greenspace in central Dunfermline while restoring a section of the Lyne Burn to a more natural condition, creating a rich space for people to enjoy.

One aim of the Lyne Burn Project is to increase the biodiversity along the burn’s corridor through local planting projects. The funding for the bulbs and trees was made possible by a Volunteering Matters Action Earth grant funded by NatureScot. 1000 bulbs were planted – 500 snowdrops and 500 bluebells. Alongside these native trees such as holly and rowan were planted.

Action Earth will be supporting around 140 projects in Scotland in 2021 with grant awards of up to £500. These grants are aimed at groups who support and encourage volunteer activity through practical environmental projects for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.  The funding also helps local communities respond to climate change in their localities.

More than 20 volunteers attended the events including members of local groups such as Soroptimist International Dunfermline, Touch Community Garden, Touch and Garvock Community Council and Carnegie Rotary Club alongside local residents and FCCT volunteers.

Lisa Murray from Touch Community Garden, said: “It was great working with FCCT and other local groups planting trees and bulbs in Touch and bringing nature to our doorstep. We are looking forward to seeing them bloom in spring and being involved with more planting days in the New Year.”

Alexandra Hoadley, Conservation Officer at Fife Coast and Countryside Trust commented: “I would like to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers who came along to plant bulbs and trees with us as part of the Lyne Burn Project in Touch, Dunfermline. We look forward to the flowers blooming next spring, providing a beautiful splash of colour and nectar sources for many different invertebrate species.”
