Become a Volunteer Tree Warden and Stand Up for Local Trees

Fife Tree Warden Scheme has launched at a community tree planting event with CLEAR Buckhaven and Methil.

Tree Wardens are volunteer tree champions who plant, look after and stand up for the trees and hedgerows in their area.

Funded by Fife Council and the Community Woodlands Association, Fife Tree Warden scheme is supported by Fife Coast & Countryside Trust (FCCT) and Climate Action Fife. Tree Wardens is a national scheme run by The Tree Council, supporting local groups across the UK. Fife is the second local authority Tree Warden scheme to set up in Scotland, after Perth & Kinross.

Rebecca Logsdon is Fife’s Community Tree Planting Officer based at FCCT. She says: “If you have a love of trees and a few hours to spare, we’d love to hear from you.

“As a Tree Warden, you’re not simply an extra pair of hands. You’re an ambassador helping safeguard Fife’s trees, woodlands and greenspaces. And you’re helping to tackle the climate and nature crisis. Anyone can be a Tree Warden and you don’t need to have prior training or experience.”

Sam Village, National Tree Warden Scheme Coordinator at The Tree Council said: “It’s fantastic to be celebrating the new Fife Tree Warden network, our second network for Scotland. We look forward to working with FCCT to support their wonderful new volunteer Tree Wardens to plant, protect and care for the trees which are so essential to our lives and our urban spaces.

“By joining, local residents can enhance the trees and woods they see and enjoy every day.”

Tree Wardens should be able to devote around 12-24 hours a year (1-2 hours a month). You will be exploring your area and carrying out activities such as surveying trees and hedgerows and supporting tree planting. You should have a willingness to learn and be happy to work outside, sometimes in remote places. Support and training will be available.

In return Tree Wardens can discover more about tree planting, tree management, tree recording and tree protection. You can learn new skills, be part of a Fife-wide network and meet like-minded people.
